Timber gates
Treated pine lapped gates framed to match a paling or lapped timber fence, hung on galvanised steel or timber posts. Capping is not available on timber gates.
A timber gate is a braced treated pine frame clad with lapped palings so it reads as part of the fence line. We build lapped gates only. Single gates suit side passages; double gates cover driveways.
Capping is not available on timber gates. A lap & cap fence can still have a matching lapped gate – the fence run can be capped, the gate itself is lapped palings without a cap.
We hang timber gates on galvanised steel posts wherever possible: steel does not rot at ground level, which is the usual reason a timber gate starts to drag. Heavy-duty hinges, a D-latch and a drop bolt on doubles are standard.
Timber gates are built with our treated pine fencing. For a longer-lasting gate in a timber fence, a Colorbond or slat gate in a complementary colour is another option we can quote.

Common questions
Why do timber gates sag?
Usually because the timber post has rotted at the ground or the gate frame was not braced. We use galvanised steel posts and a diagonal brace so the gate keeps its shape.
Can I have a timber gate in a Colorbond fence?
Yes, though most customers choose a Colorbond gate for a Colorbond fence. Tell us what you are after.
Can I have a lap & cap timber gate?
No. Timber gates are lapped only – capping is not available on gates. The adjoining fence can still be lap & cap; the gate is built as a lapped panel so it stays square and the cap does not split at the hinges.
Can I paint or stain it?
Yes – treated pine takes paint or stain well once it has dried out for a few weeks. We do not paint or stain gates as part of installation.
